About the Book
Sense of Place was exhibited at the ArtStarts Gallery from September 2012 to March 2013. Communities from Skidegate in Haida Gwaii to Kimberley in the Kootenays are featured in the exhibition book. Through a wide variety of visual and performing art forms—including felting, painting, printmaking, traditional cedar bark weaving, photography, filmmaking, music, poetry and storytelling—students explore how their heritage and environment contribute their personal identities, or "sense of place".
Sense of Place was an exhibition of young people's art at the ArtStarts Gallery in Vancouver, BC, Canada, from September 25, 2012 to March 15, 2013. This book documents the exhibition.
The ArtStarts Gallery is the first in Canada devoted exclusively to young people's art. Since the gallery opened in 2006, our exhibitions have celebrated the exciting artwork that emerges when students, educators and professional artists work together to deepen learning, creativity and community connections.
