About the Book
The Shepheard Photograph Collection is a remarkable archive of some 4000 negatives made by an expert amateur photographer Rodney Shepheard when he was living in Brimscombe in Stroud's Golden Valley in the 1940s. Many of the images are of the Thames and Severn Canal, the nearby hills and villages, old mills, the foundry at the Port Mill where he worked as an engineer, and of the family at home.
After the photographers death in 2000, the cabinet of black and white negatives passed to his son Peter at his home in Scotland. The archive is now back in the Stroud valley and many images have been digitised by the Stroud Local History Society. This book selection has been prepared by the photographer’s son Peter Shepheard.
