About

My younger sister and I grew up In NYC during the 1950s and often heard our parents speaking in Japanese. Altho my sister and I did not understand or speak Japanese the word "camp" was often used and I sensed anger in my father's voice as my mother chided him to calm down. Years later I would view the original watercolor paintings my father created in "camp" and currently archived at Cornell University. Viewing the paintings and inheriting the copyright motivated me to research the internment of Japanese Americans and my own family history. I recognized my own family members in some of these paintings which became the inspiration to create a book and give my father the art show he was denied so many years ago.
