Riaan de Beer is a self taught fine art photographer.

Born in South Africa and trained as an Architect, he picked up a camera for the first time when he was a teenager. He took his first serious art photos by the age of sixteen.

His philosophical interests in Existential phenomenology and spirituality inform his work with an emphasis on revealing the "spirit of the place" he works in.

He moved to Canada in 2000 and lives on Bowen Island.
