About the Book
My proposal is to restore a portion of the historic biological habitat that has been last, while still maintaining the existing flood protection. My goal, in terms of habitat is to help bring back the now-endangered and formerly endemic steelhead. My project studies the geometric design approach for a steelhead corridor and refuge in the most challenging and hardest portion of the LA River.
The main strategy of my project is to reduce the current velocity of low-flow channels through a variety of design approaches, so as to ensure the provision of high-quality energy recovery zone during the long migration journey of steelhead. Based on the variety of fish activity space forms and material needs, I provide more eco-friendly concrete structures for the construction of hard habitats in the channel. And I apply the fractal pattern to the site, in order to better combine the rigid habitat with the dynamic natural elements while creating more abundant and innovative multi-element river space.
