The railway west from George to Riversdale formed the last part of what was an amazing near 500 mile route from Rosmead. Whilst not possessed of scenery quite on a par with the inland sections, it was certainly a pleasant line by anyone's standards and - moreover - went on to be the host to South Africa's last bastion of steam operation and the Country's last functioning steam shed.
