About the Creator
Apphia Ferguson-Ross is a Wales-based craftswoman and photographer whose work documents her interest in the island cultures of the British Isles. She maintains a varied craft practice, working across woven grasswork and grasswork furniture, with a background in small metalsmithing, place-based jewellery, enamelling, and analogue photography. Her work explores the relationship between material, place and practical cultural practices, with a particular interest in island cultures. Her Master's research was led by questions concerning the correlation between craft and its necessity, and how both contribute to human flourishing. This culminated in a specialised practice of heritage grasswork, making from her surrounding vernacular and adapting heritage practices to contemporary needs.
