About the Book
I took my inspiration from William Gilpin, the father of the picturesque movement in the eighteenth century, who defined picturesque as “that peculiar kind of beauty which is agreeable in a picture”. The images were made with an infrared converted camera, seeking to imbue an ethereal, old world quality to a landscape that my ancestors, the labourers, coal miners, fishermen and mariners, the chemists and druggist manufacturers and book-makers alike, would have recognised and understood.
