    About the Book

    Edit

In the summer of 2008 I was fortunate to be involved in two projects that gave me the chance to do one of my favorite things: take portraits of artists.

A collaboration with Terry Jones and i-D magazine brought me to Mexico City in June. The Artisan Issue (September 2008) featured some of these photographs, but thanks to my friend Rafael Micha from Hotel Habita I was able to capture a much wider snapshot of the young art-scene.

In July, a second project allowed me to work with curator Lioba Reddeker in Los Angeles. Together with artists Roger Herman and Hubert Schmalix from the Black Dragon Society, Reddeker picked nine LA-based artists for an exhibition that was part of the HangArt-7 program in Salzburg, Austria. For the catalog, I visited all of the artists at either their studios or homes.

This book is a record of what I found, I hope you enjoy it.

His ability to capture both celebrities and unknown subjects in a charismatic and characteristic light have also earned him advertising campaigns for Microsoft, Nike, Hewlett Packard, Pravda, Xbox, and more. Most well-known for his distinctive black-and-white portraits, Rainer is currently enjoying a larger influx of both color and on-location assignments, including reportage and environmental still life.
