    About the Book

    Edit

Tanners work with the conceptual figures exists as a one-on-one experience with people out on the street. Unimposing, non-invasive communications, they are paintings from his studio, they are mobile murals and they are personalities as well. By removing recognizable elements such as race, class, or culture, the viewer is not given specific tools to make easy decisions. The true art comes from the interactions and judgments other people will make. Shooting these figures in different locations around Los Angeles has connected his art world to the real world in ways he had not totally expected. People’s reactions have been surprisingly positive and inquisitive. Photography gives them a story.

    Tanner Goldbeck
    Los Angeles, CA

Tanner Goldbeck is an artist living and working in downtown Los Angeles for the past twenty years. Originally from Baltimore, he received a BFA from The Maryland Institute of Art and attended The Joe Kubert School in Dover, New Jersey. He relocated to the west coast to work for Powell Peralta and had gone on to work for Icon Motosports, West Coast Choppers and various other companies of note. He is a painter primarily working on large conceptual pieces based on the past twenty years of his freelance art in the surf, skate and moto industries. Goldbeck has a unique process of dismantling his older line art and repurposing them into larger, conceptual landscapes. A "Dedicated line junkie" with conceptual ideas as subtle commentary on how he views the outside world. "I want to be different just like you."
