About the Book
Sitting upside down on the couch and scaling the roof top was fairly standard practice for me as a kid. I always sought out different perspectives and pushed the boundaries.
It's who I am. It's how I'm wired, hyper-curious and slightly rebellious (heavy on the 'slightly'). It's also the part of me that I lost for a while and that took a huge toll on my wellbeing.
This is a journey through my lens as I transcended from a fairly disconnected stay-at-home mum in Perth, Western Australia, into a woman reunited with a true sense of belonging and purpose in the quirky little vibrant town of Eumundi, Queensland, Australia. In honour of that reconnection and fuelled by curiosity I photographed and documented the gratitude and connections of more than 90 people, all of whom had their own personal affiliations to Eumundi.
This village, this collective vibe that flows through town, not only lead me back to myself, but it has supported and nurtured such a diverse group of individuals, all of whom have felt the uplifting impact of this community.
It's easy to become disconnected from each other and ourselves in today's world. This book showcases the reasons why we should stay connected and the power of collective gratitude.
I believe the true value of community is how we rise together, this book is an extension of that deeply felt notion.
"This project is far more than just a collection of photographs or portraits. It is an invitation into a visual narrative that speaks about the value and ripple effect of community." Dr Jandamarra Cadd // Portrait Artist.
"Honest and emotional portraits that search into the souls and lives of the subjects and viewers alike. A brave and fearless project by Kita. Everyone has a story that needs to be told." Louie Douvis // Chief Photographer Sydney Morning Herald and Financial Review.
