    About the Book

    Edit

Taking a road trip across Canada has been a long held dream. I have now fulfilled part of that dream by driving from Vancouver, British Columbia to Dundas, Ontario.

The pictures in the first section include landscapes, eagles and Mr Seagull taken at various locations around around Burnaby, North Vancouver and Chilliwack, British Columbia. These were taken between September and December 2014 while working in Vancouver at my day job, which is in information technology.

The remainder of the book takes in the journey, from which the book takes its title. The drive home from Vancouver covered 5952 kilometres over the course of 12 days in January 2015 and the photographs offer a glimpse of the sights along the way. Starting with landscape views of Stawamus Chief Mountain, snowstorms and frozen lakes in the Rockies, Bison at The Buffalo Horn Ranch, The Hoodoos near Drumheller and the vastness of the Prairies. Next, a piece of history showing grain elevators at Inglis, preserved buildings at The Sukanen Pioneer Ship Museum and an abandoned farmhouse on the prairie. I drove a lot of the way beside railroad tracks but the only train picture I managed was of a two kilometer line of potash railcars. Almost at the end of the journey and the weather was holding up so I drove around the north shore of Lake Superior, I was rewarded with some beautiful reflections and ice formations.

I started with a shot of the early morning light in British Columbia and so the last picture is sunset on the prairies to round out the collection.

I started making pictures aged around 7 or 8 with a box brownie purchased from a church jumble sale. I soon discovered a love of landscape photography, and progressed though using various 35mm cameras over many years. I recently transitioned to high quality digital photography, my work is also available as fine art photographic limited edition prints.
