About the Book
This is J Travis Miller's masters thesis for Cornell University's Graduate School of Architecture.
The thesis investigates Umberto Eco's "The Open Work", Roland Barthes' "Mythologies", and Claude Levi-Strauss' "Structural Anthropology" as starting points for establishing a design methodology for an environment that has no existing built fabric. Folded into the investigations are studies of movement, mammal cross sections, and skeletons as aspects to elaborate on the methodology. The intention was to establish a series of constructs that required travelers/visitors to fabricate their own interpretation of dwelling at several disparate sites, then bring their experience back to a "cultural process centre" to record their experience.
There continues to be a lot activity in online visits to this book. Please leave a note as to why you looked at it or whether you found something useful in the narrative...thanks!
