About the Book
This book is the photographic journal of two Dutch friends who traveled straight through the heart of the United States of America, connecting cities and states that have been of great historical and cultural importance.
As the backdrop of the American Civil War, states like Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and
Alabama still contain many remnants of that war but also the African American struggle from slaves to Jim Crow Laws to the ensuing fight for equal rights.
However, while driving and experiencing the culture through these states it was apparent that through its controversial past the art of music flourished as a way to cope with such difficulties.
Modern Western pop music originates in cities like Memphis, New Orleans and Nashville.
All cradles of respective blues and rock & roll, jazz and country music which are still inherent
throughout the area.
The 108 photographs from their journey portray the historic implications on the modern day
American normality as seen from a unique foreign point of view.
