About the Book
Fancy a beautifully illustrated walk in the woods?
Then let me guide you through the many and varied ways you can capture the beauty and grace of nature at its finest with this unusual collection of images.
I hope the book shows you what can be created using the latest computer software, mobile phone photography apps or just by simply experimenting with different techniques.
I caught the photography ‘bug’ at the tender age of eight when my parents bought me a Kodak Brownie 127 camera. Since then I am rarely, if ever, without a camera.
Although I have in recent years chosen to shoot in colder climates such as Greenland and Iceland, the photos in this book were taken during lockdown strolls through Black Park and Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire plus visits to Kew Gardens, Perivale Wood and RHS Wisley.
All the photographs were taken in 2020/2021 during the coronavirus pandemic. This project helped to keep me sane as well as giving me exercise.
For the technically minded: many of the photographs in this book have been taken using intentional camera movement (ICM) or multiple exposure in camera.
They were taken either on my Olympus E-M1 Mark 11 or my iPhone 11 Pro. Shooting with the Olympus I often used a 6 stop neutral density filter to enable a longer exposure for the ICM shots.
With the iPhone I used an app called ‘Slow Shutter” set at 1/2 second or 1 second for the ICM images. The app ‘AvgCamPro’ was used for taking multiple exposures or they were layered using the app ‘Image Blender.’ On my desktop I have Lightroom, Photoshop and ON1 Raw.
I hope that my journey will inspire you to get out there with your camera. Be brave, try something different and, most of all, enjoy yourself!
