About the Book
"The Rodeo Record" is an unveiling of black cowboys in Oklahoma. Through interviews being in the community and creating visual art behind the scenes - Jakian Parks brings us closer to the reality of the modern day black cowboy in this visual art series. Jakian captured this book in memory and dedication to his Aunt Shay Nolan, also known as "Cowgirl". As a young child, his Aunt Shay took him to his first rodeo and he grew to love and admire rodeo life as he got older. Shay lovingly called Jakian her "Rodeo Son". The last rodeo they attended together was in August of 2017; on May 1, 2019, Shay went to heaven, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Rest In Heavenly love, Aunt Shay.. I hope I've made you proud!
