      About the Book

The Geigerbuch is a family history that begins with the Othmar Geiger and Delores Federer family and is told by their granddaughter. The genealogical book works backwards towards their ancestors (Federers, Geigers, Lauers, Frisses, Wolterings, Gschwends, Schürchs, and more) who emigrated from Germany and Switzerland and documents the road to the new 'Helvetia;' a small town in southern Illinois now called Highland.

Alongside photos, records, and memorabilia that illustrate their lives are historical context sections that describe what was happening in the world around the 'Geigerbuchers.'

The story concludes with a land acknowledgement recognizing that it was the displacement of native people in the area we call Illinois which allowed these immigrants to arrive, farm, and build a life for their families—including the author, who almost two centuries later, moved back to Switzerland where she wrote this book.

The full PDF file is also stored on the non-profit Internet Archive for free access.
