    About the Book

    Edit

This photo book captures the vibrant spirit and resilience of the people living in the settlements of Port Moresby, PNG. Through the lens, we journey into the heart of communities where life, though modest, is filled with profound moments of joy, strength, and connection. The images tell stories of children playing and laughing, their happiness undiminished by their surroundings. We see families working together, selling produce and tending to daily tasks, their bonds strengthened by shared experiences and the simple pleasures of togetherness.
Each photograph reveals a deeper narrative of endurance and hope. In these settlements, where resources are scarce, the people have learned to thrive, finding beauty in their environment and in each other. The smiles of the children, the determined gazes of the elders, and the lively scenes of market life all speak to a community that embraces its challenges with grace and dignity.
This book is a tribute to the enduring spirit of these communities. It shows that happiness is not defined by material wealth but by the richness of relationships, the strength of community ties, and the unwavering hope that lives in every heart. Through these images, we honor the resilience and joy that flourish even in the most humble settings.

    Mamuka Kikalishvili
    Tbilisi, Georgia

I am Mamuka Kikalishvili, a Georgian fashion photographer born on November 15, 1971, in Tbilisi. Raised by schoolteacher parents, I developed a passion for photography at 11 when I bought a Smena film camera. I pursued electrical engineering, earning a PhD, and later established a successful business career. At 35, I rekindled my love for photography, founding Kikala Studio in Tbilisi in 2006, which became the leading studio in the Caucasus. My work has been featured in L'Officiel (Az), Harper's Bazaar (Ru), Boutique (Az), and Nargis (Az), and I have photographed celebrities like Milla Jovovich and Nina Ananiashvili. Balancing my business and photography, I travelled extensively, capturing diverse cultures and the human spirit. Despite a busy professional life, my passion for photography remains a core part of who I am, inspiring others through my lens.
