About the Book
A photo documentary of the late Deva Asylum in Chester. Explored and documented by Joe Benjamin the complex is currently (23/3/2010) being demolished. It is thought to be one of the most haunted areas in the country and Joe and his team experienced a few chilling times on visits.
Opened in 1829, the original Cheshire County Lunatic Asylum housed 90 patients. The architect was William Cole (Jnr) County Architect, and his plans were directed by the 'visiting Justices', namely John Feilden of Mollington, Richard Congreave of Mollington, and Townsend Ince of Christleton. The land on which the asylum was built was considered 'healthy, well drained and having pleasant views'
