About the Book
MAMA is a traveling art project that empowers mothers by inspiring and facilitating expression and dialogue about motherhood. The MAMA book is a collection of the portraits from the MAMA installation, with songs and poetry from the first SuperMAMA performance.
The words and images in this book are not glamourized pictures of mothers; they are the gritty truth of our combined experience, with all the joy, sadness, and passion that that involves. In sharing our diverse truths, we open our minds to the significance of our role as mothers. When we acknowledge our strength, we can live in the courageous knowledge that our children carry on our own joy and inspiration to create for themselves the beautiful world we are leaving them.
