    About the Book

    Edit

With images made between 2019-2026, this body of work explores architecture as an evolving dialogue of form, light, and geometry. Primarily photographed throughout Vancouver, the collection examines the city’s distinctive architectural identity, from the brutal modernism of Arthur Erickson’s Evergreen Building and Simon Fraser University, to the contemporary expressions of Vancouver House by Bjarke Ingels Group, The Butterfly by Revery Architecture, and the layered spaces of the Vancouver Convention Centre and Canada Place.

Beyond Vancouver, the series expands through encounters with significant architectural works encountered while travelling, including Frank Lloyd Wright’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, Frank Gehry’s Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Fernando Romero’s Museo Soumaya in Mexico City, and AL_A’s MAAT in Lisbon. These landmarks provide a wider examination between place, culture, and the principles of architectural design on display.

Through a careful and deliberate photographic process, the work moves away from traditional architectural documentation and instead focuses on abstraction. Perspective, compression, repetition, and the interplay of light and shadow are used to reduce structures into their essential visual elements. Facades become patterns, surfaces become textures, and familiar buildings are reinterpreted as studies in balance, rhythm, and proportion.

Sentinel Forms is an exploration of how buildings can be experienced not only as places, but as visual compositions. Through a Vancouver centred perspective with fragments collected from across the world, the series invites viewers to reconsider the structures around them and discover the abstract beauty embedded within the spaces we inhabit.
