Deze uitgave geeft een impressie weer van de beelden die zijn gemaakt door Mieke Verhaar en Fred Mooij tijdens het verblijf op het eiland Burgazada.
Het eiland ligt ca. 20 km voor de kust van Istanbul. De rust van dit eiland, waar zelfs geen auto’s rijden, staat in schril contrast met de enorme drukte van de 18 miljoen inwoners tellende hoofdstad.
Op uitnodiging van de Oostenrijkse organisator en kunstenaar Harro Pirch, waren wij, op dit Turkse deel van het internationale kunstinitiatief ‘Malerwochen’ aanwezig, die ook een Italiaans en Oostenrijks deel kent.
Mieke Verhaar werd geïnspireerd door Turkse motieven op de alom aanwezige tegels. Zij maakte een serie tempera schilderijen. Fred Mooij werd geïnspireerd door de totaal andere omgeving en het contrast. Hij fotografeerde voornamelijk in High Dynamic Range formaat. Hun impressies vullen elkaar aan, daardoor ontstond dit boek.

The island lies about 20 km in front of the coast of Istanbul. The tranquility of this island, where not even drive cars, contrasts sharply with the population of 18 million inhabitants of the capital.
Mieke Verhaar was inspired by Turkish designs like the ubiquitous tiles. She made tempera paintings. Fred Mooij was inspired by the totally different environment and contrast. He photographed primarily in High Dynamic Range.

My profession is project-manager graphic design. In my spare time I photograph subjects such as: landscape, structures and drama. Shooting takes time. I prefer shooting in HDR. The results are often dynamic images. A HDR-image has a lot of color in it and a lot of details. Almost surreal images. It forces you to 'look twice'.
