About the Book
Ruminations is both a document of, and a reflection on, a past relationship through the objects left in its wake. The evidential style of the images is vaguely reminiscent of crime scene photography while at the same time oddly retaining a vibrant commercial, and almost romantic aesthetic. In one sense this series is about how the everyday objects we take for granted become so powerful after a person has left them. And because the objects are scanned, I found that, as the series developed, I was not only scanning the objects but also scanning the person I was in the relationship with, the relationship itself, and my environment, as a way to reflect.
This series also represents an attempt at catharsis, as these objects were readily visible in my daily life following the separation. And, by contemplating them and what they symbolize for me, the series represents the potential to change their emotional weight over me. It is a thoughtful and highly personal reflection of, and on, an important time and intimate relationship in my life.
