    About the Book

    Edit

No matter how many times I try to face the facts, it is hard for me to accept the reality that one day I am going to lose my father. He is 75 years old, diabetic, has had a quintuple bypass surgery, and is suffering from the early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. My father has always been a highly emotional subject for me to deal with and in my current work, I have been photographing my father as means of phototherapy, by forcing me to deal with a reality that I am not ready to face yet.

This book is the culmination of my Thesis project about my father. Many of the scenes are mundane and simply observations of his everyday life within my home through his happiness, sadness, loneliness, and any other feelings he may be experiencing. It is my hope to use these photographs as a way to cherish every moment I have with my father, no matter how long that may be and how long it may take me to be ‘finished’ with this series.

    Katherine Meyerink
    Weehawken, NJ

Katherine Meyerink is a recent graduate of Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where she received her BFA in Photography. Photographing spaces has always been a main interest in her photography. She is interested in how our daily routines revolve around different types of spaces in our lives and become backgrounds that are often overlooked by the actions that are performed there. She investigates these backdrops and how these spaces are tied to moments and memories, and can evoke a variety of feelings for each person. Currently, she is focusing on her ongoing project “Kenneth” about her father, while continuing to explore her love of spaces.
