While preparing to teach an Art History class at the Art Institute of Santa Monica I refreshed my memory by viewing on the web the paintings and sculptures created by artists from the dawn of humanity to the 21st century. The people, animals and landscapes featured in those images began to appear in my dreams sometimes interacting with subjects from a different period. Some of the digital composites (or compositions) compiled in this book are the results of my attempts to reproduce what I saw in my dreams. I created other composites by consciously mixing the images that I found to be the most inspiring.



"Le passé composé" ("The composed past") - designating the most common French passed tense - strikes me as the ideal title for my book.
