    About the Book

    Edit

When Fairfield Parlour (aka Kaleidoscope) began writing and recording their magnum opus, `White-Faced Lady` in 1971 little did they know that it would be two decades before the double concept album saw the light of day.

The band had been caught up in a classic Catch-22 situation: Olav Wyper, the Vertigo executive who had commissioned the album was leaving to join RCA. Because of this his old label refused to honour any deals that he had entered into -- and his new label refused to take on projects that he had commission on his old label!

Effectively without a recording deal the band found themselves in a penurious limbo. The following year the band broke up and the recordings were shelved.

But unknown to the band their reputation began to grow, based on their earlier seminal albums as Kaleidoscope, `Tangerine Dream` and `Faintly Blowing` and on their respected Fairfield Parlour album, `From Home to Home.`

In 1991 `White-Faced Lady` was released on vinyl -- and has been reissued successfully many times throughout the world on CD.

Peter Daltrey`s accompanying story was printed in the sleeve notes -- but here for the first time is the expanded text in book form, sumptuously illustrated throughout.
