“After maintaining a fast pace on the treadmill of life for many years, we have decided to take a break from commuting to high intensity jobs, shepherding the kids from activity to activity, and thinking wistfully on Sunday nights how nice it would have been to get a chance to read the newspaper that day.” With those words, thus began the adventure of a lifetime. Rather than stick to the conventional game plan so well established in their community, this family of four “dropped out” of life, choosing to quit their jobs, rent their house, and forgo school, so that nine months could be spent venturing through Western Europe, Africa, and Asia. The experience left them with priceless memories and an insatiable wanderlust, but also a genuine appreciation for all that they have and just how fortunate they are compared to so many other people in the world.
