    About the Book

    Edit

This is the third of four parts of a log of a motorhome journey.

In 2003 we shipped our own motorcaravan to the USA, from the UK, and completed a six-month, 12,000 mile, coast-to-coast and return journey.

This book has its origins in a CD. This was composed as an ongoing record of that six-month trip. This was done, not only for pleasure, but as a guide for others contemplating such a journey in their own UK motorcaravan. The title comes from the remark Americans made about our Hymer B548, German-built, motorhome.

It was started at the considerable preparation stage and then followed the daily travel log. There was a post-mortem on lessons learnt, the whole being a comprehensive guide. It is hoped that the nigh on 200 purchasers of the CD have found it useful and entertaining.

It had been a dream to see the log, particularly the photographs, in book form but this was prohibitively expensive. But then along came a piece of on-line software - Blurb Booksmart - which enabled the creation of a one-off book, in full colour, at an affordable price.

    David Berry
    Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK

David Berry spent a lifetime as a pilot in the Royal Air Force, joining at 18 and retiring aged 58. He did have a three-year break when he completed a degree in Education. This whetted his appetite for writing and, in retirement he has become a modestly successful author, freelance writer and publisher. The other pre-occupation is travel with an emphasis on motorcaravanning. Valerie, David's wife of 53 years and counting, mothered four children. When the youngest was of school age, Valerie started a two-year course for a Teacher's Certificate. Subsequently, in a large village primary school, she progressed from probationary teacher to teacher to deputy headteacher to headteacher! Her major hobby is needlecraft, particularly quilting and tapestry. They have been motorcaravanners for over 18 years and have travelled extensively in the UK with overseas trips to the USA, Canada, New Zealand, France, Spain and Germany.
