About the Book
Portrait Equality is a passion project for many people for different reasons, but essentially it is all about connection. Recognising a person you meet when in a completely different culture is also a mother, a child, a worker, a thinker – a person too. We are all more alike than we are different and these pictures, showing a grandmother’s tender embrace and a child’s joy at attention are the same the world over. Our project has made a global impact in a small but significant way and each photographer who has volunteered their time to participate should be proud of that. These caring individuals all have a passion for photography, whether it is their vocation or not, and we are grateful for their contributions of images alongside experiences, in their own words, about the positive connections they made. As you look through the images in this book, consider the lives each of these people live and how despite all differences, the common theme of family is found throughout. Our lives are but a series of moments, made richer by sharing them with each other.
