About the Creator
My first writing attempts were when I was a little girl and wrote poetry; my mother treasured those bizarre bits of "talent". In the 8th grade, I sent a story to the Oakland Tribune children's page and earned some points and a certificate. After we moved to Danville in 1978, I decided to take a correspondence magazine writing class from BYU. An article I wrote for that class earned me a prize for a local writing contest. I then applied for a position writing a weekly column for The Valley Times, a job I kept for nine years. I have published magazine articles in the Ensign, California Highway Patrol, the Church News, Country Inns Magazine and many free-lance in local newspapers. In 2001 I self-published the bio. of my maternal grandfather, John Spande. In 2014, because I felt my grandmother deserved her own book, I wrote and published this book. Then I wrote a bio of William Stanton Hamblin, my husband's father, fulfilling two of my passions: family history and writing.
