About the Book
All hands are unique and tell a person’s story just by their features, whether it is age, scars, or nail biting. I chose to focus on the distinct personality of the hands of my family and friends. Each diptych contains a close-up or abstract portrait of the individual’s hands followed by an image of what they love to do. The abstract portraits make the subject vulnerable through revealing intimate details about themselves. I asked the model to choose something they love to give the viewer a small taste of who they are. Answers ranged from simple activities, such as chess or crossword puzzles, to the love of a daughter. The signatures were added before every diptych to separate each person into chapters. Handwriting can help identify someone and each pen stroke and swirly letter is their own.
