    About the Book

    Edit

Growing up in Africa, the son of missionaries, Jon Moyer has Kenya in his blood. It’s the place where Jon feels most alive and inspired, a place where man and nature live side-by-side and the result is photographic poetry. Behind the lens, Jon hopes to bring the African experience to life for those who’ve never made the trek.

Kenya is a land of sharp contrasts, where life on the plains is both nurturing and predatory, stark yet stunning. In the small nearby villages, such disparities can also be seen in the faces of its people, whose lives are threatened by poverty but whose spirits are rich in joy and gratitude. Far from the material excesses of civilization, they are happy simply to exist. This is the essence of Kenya that Jon works to capture in his photographs, showing the beauty of nature in its rawest form and revealing the best of the human spirit.

Since Jon left Africa as a young adult, many of its national parks have been endangered, depleted or destroyed, threatening this beautiful natural habitat. To learn more about efforts to reverse this trend (and see more of Jon’s work), please visit jonmoyerphotography.com.

“Jon Moyer’s passion for the people and wildlife of Kenya shines in this vibrant and compelling book. As someone who has lived in Kenya, Jon conveys a vision from the inside out rather than the outside in and it shows in his subtle, intriguing and captivating photographs that fill this book.”

    Jon Moyer
    Vista, California, USA

Jon Moyer creates photos that celebrate the human spirit. As the son of missionaries, he spent his childhood moving around Africa helping those less fortunate. It was there that Jon developed a fascination for photographing people in the cities and remote villages, as well as the wildlife on the African plains. Upon moving to the United States, Jon studied fine art at Point Loma Nazarene University, focusing on a variety of creative skills—from photography to graphic design. Now a seasoned photographer with more than a decade of experience, Jon still shoots from the heart, driven by a quest to celebrate life through his art. Jon’s photographs have been published in magazines and been the subject of several Southern California art gallery showings. And, as the official photographer for the “Wanna Play?” campaign for NAMM, Jon has photographed a variety of celebrities, including Robert Downey Jr.; David Carradine; Gene Simmons; Paul Stanley; Dave Navarro;Ben Harper; Kenny G and Slash.
