About the Book
My thesis project is a series of site-specific wall-corner “mind installations.” They are paintings in space or architectural moments. Made out of multi-colored yarn, they are intrinsic representations of the three alchemical elements that have made me the person I am today: my Mexican culture, my Buddhist practice, and crucially, their interrelationship.
Even though I was raised Catholic in Mexico City, I have always been drawn to Eastern spiritual practices. My desire to dig deep into Buddhism grew stronger when I arrived in New York in August 2017, and discovered a Kadampa Meditation Center two blocks from school. I started going to the center twice a week, and began to notice how this practice was influencing not only my work, but my life completely. Throughout this spiritual-artistic quest, I constantly look inward to find ways of sharing with the world the path to self-reflective consciousness.
