Environmental Expressionism Manifesto

The Environmental Expressionism Movement utilizes the arts to convey or express the conceptual content of the environment, or in particular, relevant issues concerning the environment paying particular emphasis regarding the natural world. This being the conceptual basis for the work, some of the issues may include concerns regarding;



•The 'Balance' in the natural world.

•Sustainability

•Conservation

The basis for the movement is to provide, create and therefore enhance a greater understanding and awareness through the arts.











Environmental

Within the definition of 'Environmental' the work should contain and convey the environment as a central core theme and thus 'tap' into the current or future concerns regarding environmental issues. Therefore, in turn, the work will be current and relevant to a particular time and place.

As the conceptual content of the work plays a major role within the overall art work a strong narrative regarding said content should be paramount.





Expressionism

The broad meaning of expressionism can be defined in three ways;



1. The expressing of an idea/concept and thus creating and or encouraging dialogue.

2. The mark making should convey a sense of the makers signature. In other words the artist's style should be present in the work.

3. The work should be expressive in its own intrinsic right.

It is with pleasure that I found out that John embraced the spirit of Environmental Expressionism, also, to my knowledge, John was the first artist, (apart from the core group) to declare himself as an Environmental Expressionist.
